Improving Interactive Examples Utilizing Student Data

Tycho is a web-based homework system developed by the Department of Physics at the Univ. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition to providing a customizable grade book and serving a wide range of homework formats, Tycho also creates a time-stamped log of every submission a student makes to the system. These data have furnished valuable feedback for improving our homework problems and provide a unique opportunity to observe how students interact with computer-based homework in the "real world." In this talk, we will share how we use this information to refine and improve our web-based homework.
